International School of Texas Offers a Unique Global Education
The International School of Texas is a non-profit, independent private school serving the areas of Bee Cave, Lakeway, Steiner Ranch, Four Points, River Place, Westlake and the surrounding communities.
The school’s mission is to provide students with rigorous academics while growing global citizens and global leaders.
“We strive to provide children with a strong academic foundation through the use of our global curriculum including the International Baccalaureate program, Singapore Math, Spanish and Mandarin, and our STEM program,” said Head of School Tim Reilly. “In addition to our global focus, we also place a high level of importance on children’s individual learning styles and have equipped our inspiring learning spaces with 21st century collaborative furniture and flexible seating. We find our modern classrooms optimize learning outcomes.”
The school serves children from early childhood, age 2, through 5th grade and has plans to open a middle school in the future. IST is located on 12 beautiful acres overlooking the shores of Lake Travis, and features an outdoor play area that consists of large playscapes, a turfed soccer field with organic infill, a basketball court and net climber. “Our dynamic campus also includes a school garden and outdoor classrooms. There is no shortage of outdoor activities for our children and we continue to enhance our facilities and our grounds every year,” said Reilly.
Admission to the school is offered on a rolling basis. “We limit our class sizes to keep them a bit smaller which ensures a successful learning environment,” said Bethani Emery, the director of admissions. Students also have the option of being part of the school’s soccer, robotics and cheerleading teams. Open houses at the school are held regularly and individual tours are also offered to prospective families based on their scheduling needs.
To enhance the global perspective of the children who attend IST, the school celebrates many cultural holidays and also hosts several community events each year as part of their Trailblazer Speaker Series. “We also offer international trips for IST families to broaden their experience of the world,” said Reilly. “This year we are traveling to Peru and next year we will be visiting China. There is no better way to open children’s hearts and minds to the world around them than for them to experience other cultures first-hand.”
