Although it is unincorporated, Spicewood has its own post office, numerous small businesses, and the governing body is Travis County. The area also extends into southeastern Burnet county.
Students living in this area fall under the Marble Falls Independent School District. Schools include Spicewood Elementary School, Marble Falls Middle School, and Marble Falls High School.
